About Girl Scouts

This section contains a brief overview of Girl Scouts. In-depth information may be found at the Girl Scouts of the USA official web site.

Girl Scouting began in Savannah, Georgia in 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low (known as Daisy) organized a handful of girls into the first Girl Scout Troop. Girl Scouting is now 3.7 million strong nationwide, continuing to grow strong and striving to serve all girls, everywhere! Read more on Girl Scout History...

Girl Scouts is open to all girls, ages 5-17 or in grades K-12, and adults who accept the Promise and Law and who pay the $10.00 annual membership dues (lifetime membership is available to graduating Senior Girl Scouts and adults).

Girls participate through troops, groups or as individuals and in partnership with caring, trained adults. There are more than 300 Girl Scout councils offering the opportunity for membership in every corner of the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
