Membership Return to Top

  • Girl membership grew by more than 4% over 2004 to 36,639. Nationally, Girl Scout membership declined 3%.
  • Market share is 11.22%, a slight increase.
  • Troop girl retention decreased as did the number of girls registering in troops.
  • Our total girl membership is 53% ethnically diverse (19,628 girls).
  • Adult membership decreased to 12,651, although adult leadership increased.
  • 3,716 adults trained through 267 course offerings.
  • 20 Delegates and 11 Visitors attended the 2005 National Convention in October.

  • Girls celebrated their most successful Cookie Sale Program yet –2,585,052 boxes sold! The Diva Club (over 1,000 boxes) boasted 32 members!
  • Resident and Day Camp enrollment increased more than 12%.
  • Launched Summer Program Fun Guide, giving girls the opportunity to participate individually in local summer activities.
  • Spring and Fall Troop Camping up!
  • 4 girls attended the National Girl Congress in Atlanta.
  • 94 girls earned the Gold Award; 274 earned the Silver Award; and 760 earned the Bronze Award!
  • Troop to Troop expanded to include holiday gifts (ornaments and cards) with a Texas flare.
  • Tejas sponsored the Denmark International Jamboree Studio 2B destination in July for ten girls and two adults. An additional 25 Tejas Council girls participated in other Studio 2B destinations.
  • The Life Saving Award was presented to a Girl Scout in recognition of her heroic efforts during camp.
  • Tejas Relief Program was introduced in response to hurricane disasters, allowing girls to further their community service involvement.

  • A webmaster position was created and filled, allowing for daily updates and improvements to the Council’s website.

    • TIPS Events & Service Unit Update available online
  • Administrative Volunteer and Leader input was collected utilizing online surveys on a range of subjects including the 2006 Council Plan of Work and training needs.
  • Deloitte Consulting conducted a pro-bono technology assessment focusing on membership, fund raising and accounting systems.
    • 2 Focus Groups held with field volunteers seeking input on current and desired systems
    • Staff from all departments interviewed regarding technology needs
    • Findings reported to the Board of Director
    • Key initiatives included in 2006 Plan of Work

Infrastructure Return to Top

  • Point of Sales system implemented in Tejas Shops to provide improved inventory management resulting in merchandise availability in 2006.
  • Shop sales increased more than 4% over last year. New shop website to be available in 2006.
  • Special Camp Care gift packages developed for campers.

Fund Raising Return to Top

  • Real Girls. Real Women. Luncheon held in November, raising $35,000 (net) for girl programs. 370 guests attended the event.
  • Grant results: $247,200 raised through foundation, corporate, state and federal grants. Funding supported financial assistance, outreach, and girl programs.
  • Girl Scout families contributed over $140,000 through Family Partnership efforts led by Service Unit volunteers.
  • United Way contributions increased in 2005 to $505,122.

Property Improvements Return to Top

  • Camp Bette Perot: - New signage, lighted entry and camp sign - New entry and signage for the EQ area - New interior paint for Horseshoe Bend, Arch and Hollow unit latrines.
  • Camp Whispering Cedars: - New security gate installed
  • Camp Rocky Point: - New security gate installed - Added one tent platform

Public Relations Return to Top

  • The Council received excellent media coverage, including: 596 print hits and 44 television or radio spots (primarily cookie sale program promotion)
  • Cookie Box Creations event at Valley View Mall demonstrated Girl Scout’s creativity and provided an opportunity to promote the benefits of Girl Scouting.
  • Developed consistent branding messages to promote the benefits of Girl Scouting to girls, parents, volunteers and donors. Messages incorporated into 2005 recruitment materials as well as other Council publications and events.

Looking Ahead to 2006 Return to Top

  • 1% growth in membership planned targeting traditional troops.
  • Streamline systems to enhance volunteer experience.
  • Tejas Council selected to host 2 international destination events in 2006: Our Cabaña & Peruvián Explorer.
  • The Council-wide Gold Award Ceremony will be held in early May.
  • Patricia Diaz Dennis, National Chair of the Board of GSUSA, will join us for our Annual Meeting and Recognition Luncheon on April 29th.
  • More information regarding Council realignment will be available in late February.
