Funding and Camp Properties
The Girl Scouts of Tejas Council is funded
through Event/Camp Fees (10.9%), Annual Giving/Contributions (7%),
United Ways (8.8%), Calendar & Cookie Sale (57.5%), Merchandise
Sales (4.9%), and Other (10.9%). Expenses include Services to Girls
& Adults (88.6%), Management/General (8.3%), and Fund Raising
(3.1%). (Source 2003 Annual Report).
To secure the future of the Girl Scout
program in our 20 county jurisdiction, the council conducts an Annual
Giving Campaign each fall for Girl Scout families. The council also
searches for grants and holds special events to diversify funding
sources.
The council maintains three camp properties:
Camp Rocky Point at Lake Texoma; Camp Bette Perot near Palestine;
and Camp Whispering Cedars, 20 minutes from downtown Dallas.
Registration Fee and Troop Dues
Both girls and adults pay an annual $10.00 registration fee which
goes to Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., headquartered in New York. This
fee includes accident insurance that provides supplementary coverage
for participation in Girl Scout activities.
The leaders and girls of each troop decide the amount needed for troop dues,
and whether they should be paid weekly, monthly, semimonthly, etc. These dues
are used for troop activities, projects and supplies. Troops are self-supporting
and Brownie-Senior troops can participate in council-approved fund raising as
well as the annual Cookie Sale to supplement dues income.
Financial assistance is available for girls and adults to
participate in activities.
